For My Kelly...

She starts chemo today. 

 I wave these Tibetan prayer flags all over her from what feels like two zillion miles away.

Whatever divine or cosmic plea you make to whomever, I hope you'll take a moment and think of her.

"raditionally, prayer flags are used to promote peace, compassion, strength, and wisdom. The flags do not carry prayers to 'gods,' a common misconception; rather, the Tibetans believe the prayers and mantras will be blown by the wind to spread the good will and compassion into all pervading space. Therefore, prayer flags are thought to bring benefit to all.

By hanging flags in high places the "Wind Horse" will carry the blessings depicted on the flags to all beings. As wind passes over the surface of the flags which are sensitive to the slightest movement of the wind, the air is purified and sanctified by the Mantras.

The prayers of a flag become a permanent part of the universe as the images fade from exposure to the elements. Just as life moves on and is replaced by new life, Tibetans renew their hopes for the world by continually mounting new flags alongside the old. This act symbolizes a welcoming of life changes and an acknowledgment that all beings are part of a greater ongoing cycle."

Kelly's Celebratory Dance...

Today, our Kelly got the news that her lymph nodes are clear and there is no cancer spread.  We are all faint with relief and giddy with celebrations.  I think my family and I will be heading to Indian food tonight in her honor (she's a sucker for other nations) and if I know Umber, she's also doing some serious strutting around her house.  Praise all that is good and holy!

Why do I do this to myself? I was just hanging out on the TOMS website checking out their new wedges, and I ran into these two delcious summer releases.  That color is just too you to pass up and that first shoe is just too "Newsies" for me not to wearing.  While we are at it, I'll take a pair of black wedges and orange/white striped wedges, thank you very much.

Excuse the sentimentality of this post, but one of my very best friends moved to California this week and is also celebrating her 30th birthday this weekend.  Many of you know that I've had some life-changing circumstances relocate me for a small time, which prevented me from spending the remaining weeks of Kelly's time in Washington with her and Brad.

It's a tad long, so I suggest you whip up a latte or gin & tonic (heavy on the lime, Kelly style) and sit for a bit.

I'll miss you.

Venation...a slew of pictures.

We are so proud of our Umberdove here at Pretty, Please!  The show had a remarkable turn out, and I heard people saying as they entered, "this is the place with the good stuff."  Kelly worked her magic skills of people, uncovering a plethora of beautiful stories of how people related to her art.  An English teacher even asked her to borrow one of her write-ups to read in her class!!!
