Golden Globes 2009

of course i care about film and television as an art form. i have had "slumdog millionare" and "the reader" on my list since i first heard of their release.
but we all watch the golden globes for one reason. here's a few of them:
mary louise parker in such a stunning color, though i am not a fan of the dress otherwise. seriously though, beware the strapless dresses this year. i counted at least 25.

anne hathaway in perfect poise and color, but seriously? that gown is close to hideous AND strapless.

marisa tomei in what is (THANK GOD) artistic, elegant, sexy, and not strapless.

kyra sedgwick in a gorgeous gown and one that actually makes sense as strapless - though i still don't forgive her.

evan rachel wood in a gown that makes her indelibly timeless. bravo.

oh renee?!
(did you gasp? me to)!
the skirt is a work of art, but really?
i am speechless at this gown. not in a good way.

brad and angelina. because, of course.
(note her fashion forward non-strapless business).

bravo to kate winslett for FINALLY earning some legitimate awards, and two at that! she has been nominated so many times...
and yet again, a strapless number. but i can speak no evil of kate...she is the vision of loveliness here with leo.

my personal favorite.
kate bekinsale in this artistic tulip of a dress.
note the perfect use of embellishment and whimsy in a strapless dress - so much that it creates a lovely bare shoulder with the illusion of straps nonetheless.

~ever and always ogling the internet so you don't have to,

bravo indeed for evan rachel wood (running with scissors?). i'm totally impressed.

renee, wtf? it looks backwards, inside out and cheap (in the oops my blouse is sheer and you can see my ill-shaping bra).

i am a puddle of remorse that i was unable to view the awards and will chase my despair into a corner until i can get my hands on a recording of the event.

Mary Louise Parker = Gorgeous color, meh dress.
Ann Hathaway = time for a new stylist.
Renee Zel-how-the-f-do-you-spell-it = What the Fucking Fuck? Who wears a beautiful skirt (because like it or not, the skirt is fabulous) with a SHEER TOP AND NUDE BRA? That one is going down in the all time worst choices for someone who has enough money to know (pay someone else to know) better!

I really could care less about the awards (I know, blasphemy!) but I do love to dish and rip the clothes!

When do I get my Versace? Really!

here's how it will go.

Jessica and her mother will be the first to attend one of those awards shows, and will of course buy Versace for the event. They will then flirt and cleavage Donatella into giving them a custom wardrobe for jessica and her closest friends.

Moral of the story: Suck that friendship for all it's worth. I know I am.

:)

I will, of course, at the very least, distribute my gift bag, courtesy of the Academy.

During my fitting, while Donatella is (inevitably) blinded by my mother's bountiful bosom, I will casually let it slip that a few choice friends with supreme taste would appreciate any vintage couture she has lying around.

Love Evan Rachel Wood.

Love Evan Rachel Wood's dress.

Now, onto strapless dresses. Only 0.01% of the female population in the US can actually look good in a strapless dress. I'm not going to vouch for any other countries.

My personal beef with strapless is that 95% of my brides wear strapless dresses. Only 2 girls in the last 4 years that I've been photographing weddings have worn something other than strapless. I am waiting for this trend to make a quick but painful death.

Iscah Mara - Please ask Miss Donatella if she happens to have an apple green, floor length, silk number with red detail around the bust that was featured in the Milano store Spring of 1998. That's the dress I want. Please and thank you.

M - for the record, I will have you know that I wore straps down the aisle - skinny ones with an incredibly low-cut back, but they were there!

Umber - Thank GOD! But, you are part of the 0.01% that could actually wear strapless.

OH! i was late on viewing this apparently. anywho. i also did not watch the awards, watched PVR'd anthony bourdain with my hubby instead. i also LOOOVE the tulip dress, and am similarly disgusted by the plethora of strapless gowns EVERYWHERE. i cannot/willnot wear anything strapless. my wedding dress also had straps. i loved the dress. it loved me. it was a match made in heaven (actually more likely made in china, but i really don't know). nice choices though crm - i thoroughly enjoy the fashion savvy info i get from reading this bloggy. keep em comin!

i am quite happy to say that i also opted out of the strapless trend.

thank god we are all snobby elitists...it pays off in fashion at least.
